Earthquake Preparation

Being prepared for an earthquake is of absolute necessity now. It is an event that there are no warnings about, and can occur anywhere, at any time.

When we look at earthquake preparedness we must look at several aspects, being the most of basics in dealing with survival. In terms of dealing with trauma and injury, preparedness can be in securing furniture and breakables and having an emergency plan for yourself and the family.

Create a disaster preparedness plan with your family addressing what everyone needs to know on what to do in the case of an earthquake or other emergency. It is also a good idea to decide where you will reunite if separated and an outside family member or friend that resides out-of state that family members can call to report where they are at and the conditions they are in.

In terms of taking steps to do all you can for an event such as an earthquake, there is also the assembling of survival kits. This should also be something that is easily accessible in case of such an emergency, with your emergency tools. It can contain the safety lightsticks and gas shut off wrench. Learn to know how to safely and in haste turn off gas, water and electricity in case there are damaged lines, and pack your emergency supplies and prescription medications. Your emergency supplies can consist of water, food, blankets and First Aid supplies.

By doing what you can now can make the difference in injuries, trauma, and panic that can happen when an earthquake happens.
